History

edit

Evangelical Mission Ministries was originally formed in 1954 under the name Mexican Militant Mission in Pharr, Texas by the Reverend Walter Gomez. Initially, the mission focused on planting churches through foreign missionaries and national workers in Northern Mexico. Due to its efforts of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of Mexico, groups of believers concentrated in small villages surrounding Monclova, Coahuila began to form. The need was identified to train Christian workers, and specifically pastors, for these congregations.

In 1955, the Mission started a Bible School just outside the city of Oaxaca to address these needs. The school moved after three years, first to Monclova, and later in 2000 to its current home in Pachuca. Over the ensuing years, the mission also changed its name. As the connotation surrounding the term "militant" became an increasingly negative one in the United States, the mission changed to Mexican Mission Ministries. Later, in 2007, it underwent its most recent transformation to EMM.
