Canopy Roads Baptist Church
Over half of the residents of Tallahassee and Leon County attend church less than once a month. At Canopy Roads our vision is to: "Honor God by helping “unchurched” people become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ." We do this by creating environments for all age groups where the community is rich, the people are real and the Bible is brought to life through upbeat music, engaging video, true to life dramas, and messages that apply timeless truths to life in today’s world. The Bible comes alive at Canopy Roads for preschoolers through senior adults in age appropriate services and ministries that are life-changing and never boring.
History
editPastor Matt Hall and his wife Terri moved to Tallahassee in 1996 with their four children and a vision to establish a new kind of church. They dreamed of starting a church that was focused on helping un-churched people make sense out of the Bible and become fully-devoted followers of Christ. Pastor Matt had a passion to make church relaxed, relational and relevant to people living in the real world.
On September 8, 1996 a core group of 45 people from Northside Baptist Church met for the first Canopy Roads worship service at Hawks Rise Elementary School. It was a humble, but exciting beginning. In December of 2002 the young congregation moved from the school to its first permanent facility on a beautiful 19.25 acre parcel of land on Bannerman Road.
Today several hundred worshippers attend one of the two Sunday worship services at Canopy Roads. Newcomers discover a community rich environment where skeptics, seekers and seasoned believers all find faith, friends and family. Upbeat music, creative drama, cutting edge video and practical messages about life in the real world bring the Bible to life and help people connect with God and experience positive life change.
