{Brahma Sree Sadhu Gopala Swamikkal better known as Gopala Swami of Poojappura[1] was a Hindu Seer known for his teachings based on advaita. Though he remained virtually unknown to the outside world, his teachings have been recorded and published by a small group of disciples as Arul Mozhikkal or Words of Wisdom in 1964. It has since been republished by State Institute of Languages, Kerala in 1998.[2]
Life
editGopala Swami was born in 1900 (Uthram Star( Nakshatra) in Karkitakam month of Malayalam year 1075) as the son of Kuttiparambu Veettil Shreemathi Kochukunjamma and Shree Narayana Pillai, Kollengode, South Travancore.
He was interested in meditation from a very early age.Though not much is not known about his Gurus , he was known to have association with divine personalities like Ama Swamy.
Teachings
editHe composed the prayer , Anandoham (the highest bliss that I am) ,in which he explained the advaitic principles in simple,yet highly poetic tamilised Malayalam words.
Death
editHe died on 9th March 1960 Pooyam Nakshatra (Star) in Kumbhom month of Malayalam year 1135). His Samadhi place at Vattiyoorkkavu , Thiruvananthapuram is now a pilgrimage centre.
