Digital Biomarkers

edit

Digital biomarkers are indicators of health outcomes developed from digitally collected data (e.g. heart rate from a vital sign monitor). Their source and method of collection makes them “digital” as they are collected and evaluated using a combination of sensors (typically small and portable) and softwares. The measurement methods include devices spanning:

  • Wearables
  • Implantables
  • Ingestibles

Just like Biomarkers, digital biomarkers can be objectively measured and evaluated to assess normal physiological processes (and anomalies therein) or response to therapy and/or infection. They can be incredibly useful for remote patient monitoring as well as regular health tracking. They can be diagnostic, prognostic or predictive.
