Uncle Skins (also called The Redskins Uncle Sam), is a Washington Redskins costumed fan. Costumed in formal dress attire commonly associated with the historical political cartoon personality, Uncle Sam, and entirely themed to the Redskins team colors of Burgundy and Gold, Uncle Skins has been in attendance at Washington Redskins home games since 2010.
Conception of Uncle Skins
editIn an effort to fabricate an orginial, region-specific and intimidating mascot,[1] the symbolic personification of the American Government, Uncle Sam, was blended with a Washington Redskins theme. The fabric in Uncle Skins costume was handsewn. Uncle Skins uses toy Hulk Hands wrapped in glossy white fabric to give the appearance of gloves. On the right glove the pointer finger is extended to give the signature "I Want You" gesture. Oversized Redskins cuffs are also located at the base of the gloves. The pants feature vertical gold and white bars down the length of the inseam.
Aunt Skins
editAunt Skins, is a Redskins costumed fan most frequently seen with Uncle Skins. She is responsible for sewing the entire Uncle Skins costume.[2] Aunt Skins's signature prop is her colonial style Redskins flag.
