I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia and now live in Perth, Western Australia. I am male. This is as much personal information as could be useful for interactions with fellow Wikipedia editors. I used to have more information on this page but decided that this is not relevant to improvement of Wikipedia, since Wikipedia is not a forum and information on my background, interests or views is not relevant and may even be distracting from the main goals of the project.
I would like to contribute to many areas of Wikipedia but doing it properly requires massive amount of time, which I probably won't have until I retire. But I hope I can make a small contribution here and there.
Wiki Contributions
editI contribute from time to time to articles related to my professional and recreational interests. In particular, I created articles on
- Poroelasticity
- Maurice Anthony Biot (founder of poroelasticity)
- Peter Goullart
I also correct some articles where I feel I can make a useful contribution.
I also used to comment extensively (on and off) on various noticeboards, probably more than I should have. Because of these contributions, a couple of fellow editors suggested that I run for adminship. Although it was an honour to receive such suggestions, I decided against it. My main reason is that admins are supposed to only take an admin action in areas where they are uninvolved. I find this a difficult proposition, for to take an action, I would need to examine relevant articles and talk pages in detail. If the topic of the dispute is of interest to me, then I would probably like to contribute, and thus become involved (and thus will not be able to take admin action). If I am not interested, then I would very likely not be able to force myself to examine the topic comprehensively enough to take an informed action. In addition, I would like, ideally, to contribute more to the article space, rather than be drawn to administration duties (of which I have had more than enough outside of Wikipedia). BTW I do not like the expression in the real world, because it suggests that Wikipedia is not in the real world, that it is something like Second Life. In my view, Wikipedia is a serious project and my contribution to it is not dissimilar to my editorial duties in a scientific journal. If anyone finds flaws in my logic here, please let me know on my talk page. Cheers.
Please take part in a new discussion
editHi :-) I started a new discussion on the Talk:Ashkenazi Jews page I thought you might want to take part in. It's called:
"Which 2 people should be in the collage - Botvinnik, Gershwin, Bernstein, Von Neumann" ([1]).
Hopefully after that discussion it will be totally clear what the consensus is and what people want! 90.196.60.197 (talk) 16:28, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
