Hi,

I am using this page to hopefully commence and co-ordinate an effort to improve the quality of information provided by Wikipedia in the area of biodiversity and environmental science, conservation and restoration - focusing on Mediterranean Type Ecosystems . I do not have a lot of time for this and haven't done much, but new efforts and your help might make this happen.

If you want to be involved in this work, fantastic. Thank You.

Here are some things to help you start. (I'll add more detail with time, just a start here)

  1. Become an editor: register yourself (link on top right of the page I think). You don't have to do this but it usually is a good idea
  2. Learn a little about how to edit Wikipedia - its is both simple to start and nuanced. But, as they (wikipedia editors, that is) say, be bold
  3. Email me, or write something on my talk page, to make a link. Hopefully I will write back, or others will connect once we get going
  4. I don't have a lot of plans structured here as yet, but hopefully this will develop
  5. Critically read MTE-associated pages.
  6. Read and comment on MTE-associated talk pages - to get a feel for how things work behind the scenes
  7. Write stuff - do some experimental editing of errors or gaps that you found, this is a collaborative project, not a led one - be aware that others
  8. Respond with some ideas - use my talk page to discuss what you are thinking, or your own, and link back to mine
  9. When we have a plan of action with some details, work on them

Below is the welcome I got when I started, with some good advice. Hopefully you will get a similar one, but with a more useful 'ask me' person (I changed the one below to ask me).

Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Observations on structure / plan

edit
  • There are quite a large family of pages around the MTE concept
  • the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub page is currently the first port of call,
  • I think we should move away from the WWF scheme for the project.
  • I started a MTE redirect, which i think we should build as the site, probably in my sandbox (or someone else's)
  • currently most wikipedia ecosystem pages are based on the WWF's bioregionalisation scheme, which I feel is inadequate.
  • in my sandbox you can see how i have started to look at reconciling it
  • we need a while structural review
  • we need more detail and more up-to date info
  • we need to correct errors
  • we need better maps and images
  • we dont need a strategy or co-ordination to achieve all of this (go for it), but it might help
  • I'm going home. Storms a coming
