The 2024 season is Vasco da Gama’s 126th year in existence, their 109th football season, their second consecutive season in the Série A, and their 48th overall season in the top-flight of Brazilian football. In addition to playing in the domestic league, the club are participating in the Copa do Brasil and participated in the Campeonato Carioca, the top-flight of Rio de Janeiro’s state league pyramid.

On 3 April 2024, CBF published the fixtures for the 2024 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.[30][31] Due to the 2024 Rio Grande do Sul floods, the league was put on hold on 15 May. The league was then set to continue on 1 June from the 7th round onwards.[32]

Copa do Brasil

Vasco entered the Copa do Brasil in the first round, as they qualified through their 4th place in the 2023 Campeonato Carioca. On 30 January 2024, CBF held the draw for the first round of the cup and Vasco drew Marcílio Dias. Vasco went on to win 1–3 and advanced to the next round. On the second round, Vasco drew 3–3 with Água Santa, but won 4–1 on penalties and progressed to the third round.

On 17 April, CBF held the draw for the third round of the cup and Vasco drew Fortaleza, with Vasco playing the second leg at home. Vasco went on to draw 3–3 in aggregate with Fortaleza, but won 5–4 on penalties and progressed to the round of 16.
