Dr. Council's comments

edit
  1. Both of these look good. They are very similar, so take either or both as a start for Assignment 7.
  2. Start by establishing her notability. That is her research on children. What are her most important findings?
    1. Brendan's last part about students in her lab is not central and should not be in the lead. Put it in the main article.

Dr. Council's comments on Assignment 5

edit
  • Good job, but need more detail.

Main change needed: Combine your To-do lists, outlines, and reference lists.

  • Additional comments:
  1. When you combine your outlines, you need to put the final version in proper form. See instructions for Assn. 5 and examples in Wikipedia resources.
  2. When I said make commitments, take responsibility, I meant take responsibility for specific tasks on your article. Your lists of responsibilities are pretty vague. You need to state specific tasks, like, research early life, proofread article, make sure references are in proper format, etc.
  3. Again, fill in details. If you do that at an early stage, it will make it easier for you to write your final article.

Wikipedia Psychology Project Assignment 4 =

edit

Right up front, since it is an issue: Yes, the French article does refer to the American psychologist. I was curious, so I looked. I read enough French to figure this out. To find out how to translate this page into English, search for Wikipedia:Translation

1. Nancy Eisenberg does not have a page in English on Wikipedia. There is no commentary on the talk page. Although, She does have a wikipedia page developed in French.

  • You can use a translate function to read the French page. Make sure it's about the American psychologist, though. J.R. Council (talk) 04:52, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

2. Two References:

These are two journal articles I found on EBSCO which Nancy Eisenberg had contributed to. It seems most of her psychological work is in the developmental stage of children.

Article 1: Gal, S. D. E., Spinrad, T. L., Eisenberg, N., & Sulik, M. J. (2018). The relations of children’s emotion knowledge to their observed social play and reticent/uninvolved behavior in preschool: Moderation by effortful control. Social Development. https://doi-org.ezproxy.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/10.1111/sode.12321

Article 2: Zhang, L., Eggum-Wilkens, N. D., Eisenberg, N., & Spinrad, T. L. (2017). Children’s shyness, peer acceptance, and academic achievement in the early school years. Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, 63(4), 458–484. https://doi-org.ezproxy.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/10.13110/merrpalmquar1982.63.4.0458

  • If she has won awards (she has), there may be articles about this; or has an obituary (not sure if she's still alive), these are good places to get personal information.

3. Should we use Nancy Eisenberg's french wikipedia page as a reference? Do you want us to cite pieces of her work, and/or references which provide information on her life?

  • See my comment above about the French page.
  • The article is about her life and work, so do both. However, information about her research and other work should be put in the context of her professional career. J.R. Council (talk) 04:52, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Brendan.ndsu (talk) 01:08, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

1.) The wiki page for our person does not exist in English but does in French. There is also room to expand the article.

2.) I found two websites that can help later on in developing the wiki and also two works of Nancy. Most of the research was with development of different ages and behavior.

  • These should be credible sources. Please list the URLs for full credit on this assignment.

3.) If we wanted to get in contact with the person, would we have a better chance of getting a reply if it was from a professors email? The other question is should we develop a separate wiki page for our topic or translate the one that is in french to english and expand it?

  • I would email at her university/professional address.
  • This all depends on whether the French page refers to the same Nancy Eisenburg. Make sure it's about the American psychologist. In that case I think it would be fine to translate the page. Wikipedia has a translate function. Make sure the translated material credits the original contributors. Maybe should contact Ian at WikiEd about this. J.R.
