Current Inspire Drones
editInspire 2
editThe DJI Inspire 2 was released in November of 2016 and is considered the flagship of DJI's drone series. Weighing 7.58 lbs (3440 g) including propellers and two batteries, but not including gimbal or camera. The Inspire 2's design philosophy is suppose to be a tougher and more powerful version then it's predecessor.[1] Differences being a new magnesium-aluminum body and an upgrade from one battery capacity to now two on-board. The Inspire has a max speed of 58 mph or 93 kph and has an ascending speed of 16.4 ft/s (5 m/s) which can be boosted to 19.4 ft/s (6 m/s) in sports mode, the max descent speed is parked at 13.2 ft/s (4 m/s).[2] With this increase in speed the DJI Inspire 2 has an max operating range of around 4.3 miles (7 km) which is possible due to the latest DJI Lightbridge technology.[3] Another feature added is the inclusion of two cameras, the main unit which is slug underneath the drone from a three-axis gimbal just like the first model while an additional two-axis camera on the front allowing for the pilot to see where the drone is going. This addition was included to better improve the two operator system of the DJI Inspire series. The DJI inspire 2 comes stock with one remote controller, four propellers, and two intelligent flight battery, all this can be changed with the purchasing of DJI's different combos that include more items at a higher cost. The DJI Inspire 2 is the first drone made by the company which does not come stock with a gimbal or camera with the purchase of it's base model, but can be attached with DJI's ZENMUSE X7, X5S, and X4S gimbals.
Inspire 1
editThe DJI Inspire 1 was released in November of 2014 and was the first in line of the Inspire series, weighing 6.27 lbs (2845 g) including propellers and battery, but not including gimbal or camera. The Inspire 1's design had a mid-flight transformation which had it's legs folding up after take off. With this feature it allowed the Inspire 1 to shoot a full 360 degree of unobstructed video which could be captured in 4K a feature which was considered to be innovative at it's release. With the single battery on-board it was able to achieve an 18 minute flight time with max speed of 49 mph (79 kph), a max ascent speed of 16.4 ft/s (5 m/s), and a max descent speed of 13/1 ft/s (4 m/s). The DJI inspire 1 comes with an operational range of around 1.2 miles (2 km) and comes stock equipped with DJI's Zenmuse X3 Gimbal and the X3 camera. [4]
Inspire 1 V2.0
editThe DJI Inspire V2.0 weighs around 6.47 lbs (2935 g) and a max speed of 49.21 mph (22 m/s).[5] The V2 is essentially the same as the V1 with three particular upgrades. The motors being upgraded from a 3510 to a 3510H and the propellers were upgraded from DJI's 1345s to 1345t. DJI had admitted that the older propellers were prone to wearing out sooner then their life expectancy. This upgrade was supposedly to improve flight control and increase the life expectancy of parts. The third upgrade being an up size to the gimbal mounting plate allowing the V2 to mount the larger DJI Zenmuse X5 cameras.[6]
Inspire 1 Pro/RAW
editThe DJI Inspire 1 Pro and RAW was released in September of 2015 and were an upgrade packages to the Inspire 1 V2, weighing 6.33 lbs (2870 g) including propellers and battery, but not including gimbal or camera. The Inspire 1 Pro has a decreased max speed of 40.2 mph (64 m/s) and the ascent and descend speed being the same.[7] The primary difference between the Pro and Raw was that the RAW held a 100g difference in max takeoff weight allowing for a slightly heavier camera to be mounted.
Legacy
editSuccess
editThe DJI inspire when first released was met with with wide popularity for it's innovative design and as a product which bridged between the commercial drones such as the DJI Phantom (UAV) and Mavic (UAV) and the professional drones used my movie productions. Being a professional drone in which the commercial market could have access too lead to both amateur and professional use. It has a transforming design unique to the Inspire series, allows for an all-in-one kit with everything needed to shoot a professional quality video or picture, and when purchased came essentially assembled.[8] All of these perks lead to DJI and their Inspire series to become a successful in both drone and camera market. With DJI as of 2018 is estimated to hold 84% of the drone market share, with the DJI Inspire 2 being 7% of all drone sales by DJI.
Use
editThe DJI Inspire series has been used in numerous short films and the entertainment business with DJI making a short film entirely captured using only the Inspire 2, called The Circle. Drones have been used also in land surveying and mapping, search and rescue[9], and nature protection[10].
