About me
editI am a second year student at Rice University majoring in Policy Studies and (possibly) Political Science, with a minor in Business.
I have come a long way from my fifth grade days of editing the Wikipedia pages of celebrities with crude humor.
This user is a student editor in Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/Rice_University/Poverty,_Justice,_and_Human_Capabilities_(Fall_2016). Student assignments should always be carried out using a course page set up by the instructor. It is usually best to develop assignments in your sandbox. After evaluation, the additions may go on to become a Wikipedia article or be published in an existing article. |
Proposed topics for article revisions
editAs part of my coursework during my Fall 2015 semester at Rice University, below is the topic I plan to revise. I have stated my interests in the field and references I am looking at in order to gather information. You can view my sandbox for my progress and planning so far. Details of my rationale and a comprehensive plan and outline can also be found at this Google Doc.
I. Women in Contemporary Vietnam
Interest/Revisions:
My interest in this topic is rooted in my Vietnamese heritage and familial connection back in Vietnam. I have noticed a majority of the first generation Asian American community to be relatively ambivalent towards social issues and to hold traditional values, so I sparked my interest to trace back historical roots and look at social development in contemporary Vietnam today. After consulting my cousin who recently visited the U.S. from Vietnam and told me of the immediate social differences between the two countries that came to her mind, I wanted to focus on outlining the progression of gender equality and women’s roles in Vietnam, especially since after the Vietnam War to current day. My core project would be an expansion of and restructuring of the section “Contemporary societal influences” (which I would like to rename potentially to “Women in contemporary society”) in the article “Women in Vietnam”. I primarily want to expand upon about how the current Vietnamese society views women in terms of domesticity, social advancement, and other domains, while also detailing mortality rates. I would also like to add more statistics, data, and better organization to the section, which it seems to be lacking. This would include me restructuring many of the subsections, such as “Single women”, which I feel is under-developed and veers off-topic in its organization.
