Chalbuanga was the first Mizo Christian Martyr in Mizoram.
Chalbuanga was born in Chief Vanphunga village on 1882. Chalbuanga is the son of Thilluta Chhangte and his wife Famthangi, Khandaih (Phullen) .
A young men Chalbuanga converted to Christians in 1904 and he was baptised by David Evan Jones ‘Zosaphluia’ (1870-1947) on 2.11.1904 in Khandaih village. Chalbuanga was offered a villager elder (Khawnbawl upa) if he would renounce Christianity. But, he refused to renounce his faith and was tortured. Many of the early Christians were tortured in Khandaih village and some of them spread to other villages.
Chalbuanga was tortured by the non Christian and he died in 1906 at Khandaih (Phullen) village. Chalbuanga become the first Christian martyr among the Mizos in Mizoram.
Phullen Presbyterian Church put a memorial stone for Chalbuanga at the Church compound, which was called “Martar Chalbuanga Lungdawh”
