Burnunit is the screenname for Jon Olsen, a Minneapolis-based professional, artist, and student. Jon was born in Mitchell, SD and has lived all over South Dakota and the Twin Cities. Jon has been divorced since 2017, and has kids.
Education
editJon is a graduate of Sturgis Brown High School and of Augsburg University, a liberal arts college of the ELCA with a bachelor of arts degree (cum laude) in English and Theatre Arts and a [[Master of Arts (postgraduate)] degree in systematic theology from Luther Seminary. They also completed the basic mixology course at the Minnesota School of Bartending. Their thesis was entitled The Role of Media Effects in Popular Eschatology, a study of the relationship between media technology and the growth of premillennial dispensationalism. Using the Scofield Reference Bible as a case study, Jon applied the work of Eric McLuhan and Marshall McLuhan to their analysis, using the tetrad of media effects to explore Scofield's achievement and impact.
Jon has demonstrated facility in the study of religion and Christian theology, with a particular emphasis on the works of Martin Luther and one of Luther's 20th century American interpreters, Dr. Gerhard Forde. Jon has also greatly enjoyed being a student of English and American literature, and modern poetry. Their poetry has been included in Tales of the Unanticipated, and Star*Line the magazine of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association. As a theater artist, Jon's primary interest is directing and playwriting, though they have appeared as an actor on stages in South Dakota and Minnesota and on screen in THACO, a movie about role playing games and gamers.
Profession
editJon works in a variety of marketing roles and other duties as assigned.
The important stuff
editGood lord this third person stuff is exhausting when talking about yourself. I am a generalized weirdo, with innumerable interests and ADD. I'm a geek and passionate foodist. I have brewed my own beer, roasted my own coffee, killed my own wild game and milled my own flour when necessary. I also punched some jerk in Tahoe, killed a man in Reno, brought home the bacon, fried it up in a pan, and never ever let you forget you're a them. Jesus is my copilot, built my hotrod, and was a union man. I have also performed "supply preaching," which is when they get a seminarian, retired pastor or down-on-his-luck-itinerant to fill in for a preacher who is on vacation or if there's no one serving the call. I did this preaching for money, which means I have served both God and Mammon on the same day. God won, but I still cashed the expense checks. As a Scandinavian, I have strange and terrible urges whenever potato products or smoked or pickled fish are nearby.
Wiki stuff
editI've contributed to these articles:
- Bartholomaeus Ziegenbalg -- I'm working on some research into Ziegenbalg for my grad studies, so I've been digging around in 18th century letters and stuff, hopefully I can really contribute to this article.
- Resource fork -- I felt bad that it had a "this intro is too long" tag so I spent some time working on the article's structure. I only know a little bit about resource forks so this would probably fall under the category of "be bold," huh?
- Hugh Glass --some vandal put the distance Glass crawled from the mauling to the fort at 600 miles, which would make South Dakota the size of like...I don't know... Brazil
- Stanley Kubrick --strictly minor edits
