Rajesh Hamal (Nepali: राजेश हमाल Listenⓘ, born 9 June 1964 in Tansen, Palpa, Nepal) is a Nepalese actor, singer, model, and television host. Hamal is best known for his action movies hence he has been referred as Maha Nayak (Nepali for, Greatest actor) in the media. Hamal has a significant following in Nepal and the Nepalese diaspora worldwide. He is one of the biggest movie stars and the most respected public figures in Nepal.[1]

Hamal debuted as an actor in Nepalese cinema from his maternal uncle Deepak Rayamajhi's Yug Dekhi Yug Samma (1991)[2] opposite of Kristi Mainali.[3]Yug Dekhi Yug Samma in 1991 led him to win National Film Award for Best Male Debut.[4]Hamal rose to prominence after appearing in Tulsi Ghimire's directorial film Deuta (1993)[5]Deuta (1993) even led Hamal to win one NEFTA film Award[6] and one National Film Award[7]Since 2019 Hamal is hosting season one of the game show Ko Banchha Crorepati an Nepalese version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.[8][9]

Personal Life

Hamal was to Chuda Bahadur Hamal and Renu K.C. in 9 June 1964 in Tansen, Palpa, Nepal. Hamal has four siblings including Rita Hamal, Rekha Hamal, Rakesh Hamal, and Rupa Hamal, Rajesh Hamal was the third child.[10]Hamal is married to Madhu Bhattarai since 2014 despite Bhattarai being half of his age.[11][12]
