Daniel Bram Haber (born May 20, 1992) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Ottawa Fury in the United Soccer League.
Club career
editCollege
editHaber played three seasons for Cornell University, an Ivy League University in NCAA Division I. He scored once in 17 games in his freshman year, and added a further nine in 16 games as a sophomore. Haber was named Ivy League Player of the Week twice in his second season, and also finished as the Ivy League's top goalscorer.[1]
In 2012, he scored 18 goals and recorded seven assists in his junior year, and became the first Cornell player to be named Ivy League Player of the Year. Haber was also included in the All-Ivy First team, having been named Ivy League Player of the Week a league-record five times. He was named a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honour in college soccer.[1]
Maccabi Haifa
editIn January 2013, Haber decided to forgo his final year at Cornell University to join Israeli Premier League club Maccabi Haifa on a two-and-a-half year deal.[2] He found game time limited in his first season in a professional league, but made his debut from the bench in a 2–1 defeat to Bnei Yehuda on April 21. Haber scored his first goal in his next outing, providing his team's only goal in a 2–1 loss to Hapoel Nir Ramat HaSharon. Making a further two appearances for the club, he also scored the winning goal in a 3–2 victory against Hapoel Tel Aviv on May 18.[3]
Apollon Limassol
editIn June 2013, Haber joined Cyprus First Division side Apollon Limassol on a one year contract, with the option of a second season.[4]
He revealed that Maccabi Haifa were interested in re-signing him, but he felt the opportunity would be a good move for his career to allow more playing time. His former club had asked him to take citizenship in order to release an international spot on the roster, but he wished to remain a Canadian citizen only.[5]
On August 22, he made his debut as a substitute in a 2–0 victory against OGC Nice in UEFA Europa League qualification. He also made a cameo appearance in the second leg as Apollon Limassol went on to qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stages. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2–1 win over Alki Larnaca on September 28, and added another the following game in a 2–0 win against Doxa Katokopias. Spending much of the second half of the season on the bench, Haber scored his final goal for the club in a 2–2 draw with Anorthosis on May 18, 2014.
Ayia Napa (loan)
editOn July 2, 2014, Haber joined league rivals Ayia Napa on loan for the 2014–15 season.[6] He made his debut in a 2–1 defeat to Ethnikos on August 23, and scored his first goal for the club in a 2–2 draw with Doxa Katokopias on August 31. Making a further 18 league appearances, Haber failed to score again during the regular season. He scored a further two goals in 10 games during the relegation group to help Ayia Napa remain in the Cypriot First Division.
