Love Above All: The Story of Jim and Elisabeth Elliot is an original musical first staged in 2003 in Singapore. It tells the story of Operation Auca, focusing on the love story between Jim and Elisabeth Elliot. The play was written by David Wong, and is about 2 hours in length.
Synopsis
editThe musical begins in 1949, the year that Jim Elliot graduated from Wheaton College. While a journalist is interviewing a group of young graduates, he meets Jim and learns of his desire to become a missionary in South America. The journalist challenges his plans, which Jim defends in the song He Is No Fool. Jim also challenges his friend Ed McCully to join him as a missionary, but Ed declines.
Next, Betty Howard is introduced, musing about Jim. Jim and Betty confess their love for each other, but that Christmas, Jim feels led to Ecuador as a single missionary. Although the decision is difficuly, Jim is convinced he is following God's leading, and leaves for Ecuador with Pete Fleming, another single missionary.
In Ecuador Jim and Pete take up Spanish language study, and then move to the jungles. Then after moving to the jungle, the Napo River floods and devastates their mission station at Shandia. Jim writes to tell Elisabeth about the damage. Jim then learns that Elisabeth has been offered a job as a missionary in Ecuador, and that Ed McCully and is wife are also coming to Ecuador.
