His sire is Out of Place that stood stud at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky.[1] His dam is Kristie's World by Beau Genius. Certain with 22 starts having 5 wins, 3 seconds, 6 thirds, and 3 fourths with earnings of $527,142.[1] Certain started his racing carrier at age 2 with 5 starts. He was either first or second with 3 wins and 2 seconds. His best 2 year old race was in the Grade III What A Pleasure Stakes at Calder Race Track in Florida. On December 12, 1998 he ran the mile and sixteenth or 8.5 furlongs going 1:47.01[2] Certain started his 3 year old carrier with a very impressive win over one of the top contenders for the Kentucky Derby The Groom Is Red. The Groom is Red which was owned by Rick Pinito and was trained by Nick Zito could not make up the nearly 20 lengths.[3]
