Musical Background

edit

Christina Guibas has been studying piano for eighteen years. She has received a certificate from Mannes;the new school for music upon graduating from their prep program in 2007. Her studies were with Professor Alexandra Eames. Ms. Guibas then received an undergraduate diploma from the Longy school of music of Bard College in 2011 with Professor Ludmilla Lifson. She is currently continuing studies with Ms. Lifson while pursuing her Masters degree at the Longy school of Music at Bard College.

Ms. Guibas also has also had thirteen years of dance experience which highly influences her musical thought and musical output.

Musical Outlook

edit

I believe that music is a reflection of a time period, of a geographical location, of a society, of a culture. Music is inseparable from dance, more generally from movement; in addition, from speech. For this reason music is very serious business. Through studying music and expressing oneself through music, one has the power to connect to people throughout history and across borders.

The Music I am Most Interested In

edit

I am most well-versed in the standard repertoire of Western classical music. I also have a very natural feel for Latin music. My current interests for exploration include the indigenous music of Afri-Cuba and the Classical music of North Indian Raga.
