Blimp File ...
- REDIRECT BMP_File_Format
This is a derogatory connotation that I recently heard being used in reference to the BMP file format. It appears that this phrase was at least in use by members of tucows in+and around 2002. Due to the "cute" and very descriptive nature of this most witty reference to this particular file format's size, I thought that it would be apt to create an ambiguation[?]. The term 'blimp' is a very astute reference to the particularly large and potentially obstructive file sizes of the .BMP in the face of alternatives JPEG, GIF and PNG during the era of dialup modems.
