Manzur-Al-Matin Pitom (Bengali: মানজুর-আল-মতিন পীতম) is a Bangladeshi lawyer and news presenter. He is a listed lawyer at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.[1] He is also a news presenter and anchor in Channel 24. In 2024, during the quota reform movement, filing writ petitions for the termination of using fire arms against the unarmed protesters and to free the detained coordinators of the movement gained him nationwide popularity. He was termed a "real hero" by the social media users for standing with the protesters in the roads and the high court.[1]
Personal life
editManzur Matin's father, Abdul Matin, was a Justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.[1] After passing secondary and higher secondary education from Dhaka Residential Model College, he was admitted to the University of Dhaka of study law.[1]
Manzur Matin is married to a doctor and they have a 12-year-old children.[1]
Career
editManzur is a lawyer listed at at the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He started practicing after his graduation, initially under the supervision of Mahmudul Islam.[1] Currently, he is a junior lawyer under senior advocate Probir Neogi.[1] Besides, he works as a news presenter and talk show anchor in a television channel named Channel 24.[1]
2024 quota reform movement
editI have learned from my senior late [Justice] Mahmudul Islam what আমি আমার সিনিয়র প্রয়াত মাহমুদুল ইসলামের কাছ থেকে শিখেছি যে, আইনজীবী হিসেবে সমাজের, মানুষের ও আইনের প্রতি দায়বদ্ধতা কাকে বলে। ১৭ জুলাই রেসিডেন্সিয়াল মডেল কলেজের ফারহান আমার চোখের সামনে গুলিতে মারা গেল। ওইদিন আমি আমার স্ত্রী ও আমার বন্ধু রিন্টু আমরা যখন দেখলাম বাচ্চাদের ওপর গুলি হচ্ছে, বুক চিতিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা নিরস্ত্র আবু সাঈদকে এভাবে মেরে ফেলা হলো। তারপর আমার কাছে মনে হয়েছে, কোনো মানুষ সে হোক আওয়ামী লীগের, হোক সে বিএনপির, হোক সে যেকোনো দলের, কোন মানুষ নিরাপদ নয়।
