The Massey Ferguson 165 is an agricultural tractor produced between 1964 and 1975 [1]. Approximately ?00,000 were produced. It is a general field and utility tractor filling many roles. Part of the 100 series of tractors, the 165 was simple, practical, and reliable which made it very popular across North America, Europe, Africa, and other parts of the world. The tractor most often is powered by the four cylinder Perkins diesel but was also available with a Continental engine.
Description and production
editThe MF165 was designed to replace the MF65 and was in production for 9 years, starting in 1964. It was replaced with the next generation Massey Ferguson 200 series, the MF265. The MF165 is a two wheel drive row-crop tractor equipped with a diesel or gasoline 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which delivers 58.3 engine hp (43.5 kW) power at 2000 rpm. The electrical system is 12 volts. The transmission has a three forward speeds and one reverse shifter plus a high, low, neutral shifter that gives the tractor 6 forward and two reverse speeds. The tractor also features the Multi-Power shifter that essentially doubled the number of speeds to 12 forwards and 4 reverse. The tractor has many features such as power steering, mechanical dry disk brakes, and three point hitch. This tractor comes with a live rear 540 PTO as a standard but an independent type was also available as an option[2]. It did not come with an operator cab or roll-over bars. The MF165 was manufactured in Detroit, USA, Beauvais, France, Spain, England, and Argentina.
Variants
editThe MF165 was available with one of four engines: the 3.3-litre Perkins diesel engine, the 2.9-litre Continental gasoline engine, the 3.5-litre Perkins diesel engine, or the 3.5-litre Perkins gasoline engine. All were four cylinders and water cooled. [3]. The tractor came in several variants including high clearance, four wheel drive, low profile, and tricycle[4].
