Peter Whitfield, a mechanic of Liverpoole, 18th Century [1] (Theologian and Author, also known as Dr. Peter Whitfield).
Mr. Whitfield authored four books according to, A critical dictionary of English literature and British and American authors, By Samuel Austin Allibone [1]
- "A Dissertation on the Hebrew Vowel-Points. Shewing that they are an Original and Essential Part of the Language." (Liverpoole: Peter Whitfield, 1748). The lengthy volume of 288 pages includes an introduction, ten arguments and a conclusion. Throughout he dialogues with the positions of Levita (Elias Levita) and Capellus (Louis Cappel), giving many biblical examples to refute their notion of the novelty or recent invention of the Hebrew vowel points to the language. The original published copies are rare and are held in only eight libraries in the world.[2][3][4][5]
