Biography
editNewsome was born in Wanganui, New Zealand.[1] He graduated from The Southport School in 1981 and worked as a journalist on the Gold Coast Bulletin, The Morning Bulletin, with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and The Queensland Times before studying economics at The University of Queensland, from where he graduated with first class honours in 1991. the University of Texas at Austin in 1986, where he double-majored in English and history.[2] Riordan taught English and history, including Greek mythology, in middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and in San Antonio.[3] He was awarded St. Mary's Hall's first Master Teacher Award in 2002.[4]
