1916 [1] music at the school was limited to a small orchestra of 15 boys and a Glee Club. A concert titles the Glee Club Concert was given by the orchesta and the glee club. There is no photograph of the glee club and no other information to be able to be certain of the numbers of persons in the club.
Music in 1920 [2] there were several ways to share musical talents. The girls set up an orchestra. There were 18 girls attending. The boys orchestra had 15 members. The girls and boys played together in several school activities during the year. There was also a school band where 32 boys where in the photograph. The yearbook says there were about 40. The feature was the Drum Major, "Brick" Cunnison.
1921 [3] brought members to 5 musical groups. The Girls High School Orchestra had 15 students and the Poly Orchestra had 12. Together the boys and girls played at all of the school functions. No prizes were won at the competions, however they performed well. The school band's photo shows 33 uniformed boys. The bad played in assemblies and helped Riverside Pep. The other 2 were the Glee Clubs. The boys had 23 while the Girls High School Glee clubs members went to 61. The boys sang mostly in the assemblies. The girls performed at 3 outside functions. One for the convention of state superintendants, a high point for the girls. Along with singing for the student body the girls too 2nd place in a C.B.L. competition.
1924 [4] the Glee Clubs for both Poly and the Girls School were well attended, For Poly Glee Club there were both boys and girls as members. There were 58 students that took part in the club. The Girls Glee Club had 32 members, if I was able to count correctly. The boys club performed mostly for school functions. The girls club went to several special concerts outside of the school functions. They also performed an operetta and other school activities. A combined orchestra for the schools brought 36 young people together. They performed at several school functions. There was also the R.O.T.C. Band of 29 young men. There is no mention of their activities in this issue of the yearbook.
The year 1926 [5] dosent show much in the way of music. There was the R.O.T.C. Band of 49. No photograph of the Orchestra and then the only other participants in music was the girls glee club of 41. The article in this yearbook mentions a very successfull fundraiser on December 4th held in the auditorium. The band also performed in Fairmount Park and was very well received.
1928 [6] brings R.O.T.C. Band with 41 members and 3 girls in the photograph. The glee clubs brought 21 boys and 11 girls. A small number of performers for Riverside Poly High School music this year. Still even with small numbers the annual Fairmount Park Concert was attended by record numbers. The highlight of the Glee Clubs activities were relaized when they performed with the Rubidouz Chorus on Easter morning and in their performance at the graduation excerises this year.
