About me

I am a person with many hobbies. I enjoy being active doing things like swimming, boating, bike riding, and cheerleading. I have been a cheerleader since I was 5, and I am now on a recreational competition team. I like cooking, making everything from homemade pasta to pork tenderloin. I have gained this love of cooking through my dad. I find Sharks and other ocean life fascinating. When I have time, I like to play video games or board games with my family. I also enjoy playing songs on my ukulele. Some of my favorite drinks are Diet Coke and unsweetened iced tea and my favorite foods are salad and pasta. My favorite way to spend time is definitely playing with my four cats. Cats can have positive effects on your health by helping to lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels, stress levels, and helping to reduce the risk of depression.

My Wikipedia interests

I'm not very good at finding grammatical or spelling mistakes. My Wikipedia use is likely to be more as a user and less as an editor. If I ever find something that doesn't already have a Wikipedia page, I will try my best to make a starter page that people would hopefully add onto in the future. I would love if I could add valuable content to an existing Wikipedia page but that seems to be an unlikely scenario. The only case in which I can see myself editing some form of grammatical or spelling error would be if the error was very obvious. All I can do is try my best to help Wikipedia improve.

Article Evaluation

Cats have always been a big part of my life. Over my life, my family has adopted five domestic cats from shelters and two strays from the porch. The strays were always a little bit different than the others. This made me curious if some of their traits were similar to farm cats. So, I visited the Farm cat article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: Citations, Punctuation issues, and Uncited information.

Citations

There are both good and bad aspects of this page's citations. There are 15 total cited resources linked in this article which is good for an article this short. Some sources that appear generally credible are National Geographic, Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Post. However, there are also some links with issues such as a dead link that when clicked says the page cannot be reached. Or a website that cannot be accessed unless you pay to see the article. In the first paragraph, the first six citations are all next to each other which makes it more difficult to figure out what information came from what source. One last issue is that in the first paragraph in the "Modern status" section and in the last two paragraphs, there are no citations at all.

Punctuation issues

Something I noticed is that there are three occurrences of missing commas. When listing things, commas were often forgotten in front of the second to the last thing on the list for example "Predators, accidents, disease, parasites and hunger will all take a toll" with the comma missing after parasites. While these types of commas are not necessarily required, I think that they make the document easier to read.

Uncited information

This article does a good job at displaying facts however, the issue is that some of these facts don’t come from the cited sources, giving it no verifiability. There is the possibility that some of the information came from a person who has firsthand knowledge on the subject, but then the information would contradict Wikipedia’s no original research policy.

Conclusion

Overall, I think this article is not bad in the sense that it does have some good information on farm cats. However, there are some issues with the citations and uncited information which makes the information unverified. There were also some punctuation issues.
