You deserve a barnstar (of decapitation)!
editFor defrocking a great admin and driving him off Wikipedia | |
With many thanks to ArbCom, in all its Star Chamber and Moscow Show Trial glory, and in continuing its devotion to that call to injustice that has echoed through the ages since the trial of the blessed martyr Charles I...here's to great job for deciding on a punishment and then fumbling around for a month trying to find a vague, obviously bullshit reason to make it look good! The ghost of Idi Amin can learn from your example!
Great way to put your seal of approval on a hostile, troublesome editor's single-handed mission to publicly hang-draw-and-quarter a long-serving, no-nonsense, reliable and productive administrator to preserve his personal ownership of AfC and because he deigned to thwart that user's efforts to continue perpetrating WikiProject-cabal tyranny. Kudos, throughout the process, being able to artfully dodge calls to establish a proven violation of policy despite none ever existing. Hey, injustice is dirty work—but somebody's gotta do it! Therefore, the members of ArbCom—(AGK, Beeblebrox, Carcharoth, Courcelles, David Fuchs, GorillaWarfare, LFaraone, NativeForeigner, Roger Davies, Salvio giuliano, Seraphimblade, SilkTork, Worm That Turned)—have resoundingly earned this Barnstar of Decapitation. |
Guidance for improving Dent corn, from Afadsbad
edit- The taxonomy section contradicts the article, a variety and a species are not the same thing, the taxonomy is of the species. Use page numbers. ELS is a primary source, the USDA should have plenty on the varieties, refer to ELS from another source, but don't use for information. Without doing any research, I thought it was the non-feed corn variety, the yellow, and the white dent is what is made into masa. The introduction loses its agricultural importance, but should emphasize it. Start out, dent corn is a variety that is distinguished by its kernel shape, was developed for the reason by someone, and is available in yellow and white, differing by starch content or starch type, and is now grown for certain purposes, the yellow for this and the white for that. It comprises what percentage of maize production worldwide/USA. The taxonomy section should be the specifics about its development, including, countries of origin, centers for biodiversity. The part about the grasses photosynesis is way out there in its current location. Link both flint corn and the type of floury corn bred for the result, and move out of lead into the "taxonomy" section. I see yellow and white are at bottom, needs better developed in its own section. Sould have large section on production, it is an ag product.
- Needs GMO information, genomics information, specific agricultural research stations (Albany, CA?) for genomics and crop production, locations where it grows (soils, ranfall amount and timing), fertilization, seed production, harvest, how, when, loss of crops, insect, fungal, etc., pests and research. USA/global perspectives. Section on starch, nutrition. Markets. Its presence in mixtures. History of production, development of markets.
Wines and grapes stuff
editAgne27's outline for FA-level content on a grape variety article.
- 1.0 History (origins, parent varieties, name meaning, first record plantings, relationship to other grape varieties--siblings, offspring, etc)
- 2.0 Viticulture (early/late budding, early/late ripening, high/low yielder, viticultural hazards, disease sensitivity, special vine training associated with the variety, soil types that are favored, etc)
- 3.0 Winemaking (not needed for all varieties but some, such as Chardonnay, which tend to have certain winemaking practices, like malolactic fermentation, associated with them)
- 4.0 Wine regions (areas of production, acreage, sometimes unique history involving the variety and the region that wasn't previously mentioned in the history section, also any unique flavor notes associated with the grape and a particular region)
- 5.0 Styles of wine (the kinds of wine made from the grape--sparkling, dessert, fortified, etc--as well as a more general flavor profile that tends to be common with the variety regardless of wine region. Sometimes this flavor profile can be broken down into a general "cool climate" flavor profile versus a general "warm climate" flavor profile)
- 6.0 Synonyms (Grape varieties tend to have A LOT of synonyms that the grape has been known under in various parts of the world and at various times of history. Some articles, like Pinot gris, have a chart which I think could be tidied and incorporated into other articles)
- 7.0 Pictures (Ideally a grape cluster, grape leaf close up and picture of the wine itself in its various styles)
- As for the New Jersey wine article...
- A few details on the actual wines that were tasted at the Judgment of Princeton since this seems to be a very significant event in the history of New Jersey wine. I know the main event article has the chart (which doesn't need to be replicated here) but it feels like there should at least be at least 3 to 4 lines dedicated to the NJ wines in the event themselves, mentioning things like what general areas the wine were from, etc. Currently that section of the NJ wine article seems to focus more on the methodology and criticism of the tasting rather than on the actual wines themselves.
- The article mentions that NJ has a variety of vineyard soil types and briefly touches on some geological notes but it doesn't mention any particular soils that seem to be common in NJ wine areas. Most major wine regions of the world are intimately associated with the predominant soil type (clay soils in the Pomerol region of Bordeaux, limestone soils of Chablis, terra rosa soil of Coonawarra in Australia, etc) and, in fact, these soils are sort of "buzz words" that wine drinkers associate with quality wine so it would be of high interest to know if parts of NJ have these particular soil types.
- Acreage statistics on individual grape varieties. I know this is often hard to find, particularly with info that is relatively current. The article has a good list of all the varieties grown and makes mention of the most widely planted but it is nice to have some hard numbers to allow the reader to conceptualize just how much more widely planted the XX number of acres of Cab is in NJ versus the XX number of acres of Marechal Foch, etc. The German wine article has a very nice table (though slightly outdated) that is a great example. At the very least you may want to separate out the white and red grape varieties in the list rather than have them all grouped together in one paragraph.
- And finally, maybe a few more pictures, particularly of examples of NJ wine or of vineyards in the various AVAs. I love the historical photos. Those were a great find!

edit- Finn M. W. Caspersen
Finn M. W. Caspersen (1941–2009) was an American financier and philanthropist. A graduate of Brown University and Harvard Law School, Caspersen became chairman and chief executive of Beneficial Corporation, one of the largest consumer finance companies in the United States. After an $8.6 billion acquisition of Beneficial by Household International in 1998, Caspersen ran Knickerbocker Management, a financial firm overseeing the assets of trusts and foundations. He called education his "particular love" and regarded it as "an investment in the future—an investment in human capital". He donated millions of dollars to the Peddie School, Brown, Harvard, and Drew University, and chaired the Hodson Trust. He supported rowing and equestrian sports and was involved with the United States Equestrian Team Foundation, Princeton National Rowing Association, and the National Rowing Foundation. Caspersen was an influential Republican party donor, and a key supporter of former New Jersey governor Thomas Kean. After his suicide in September 2009, details emerged of Caspersen's financial problems and alleged large-scale tax evasion discovered in the course of federal investigations into offshore tax shelters managed by financial firms UBS and LGT Bank.
