Thirteen Volume One Thirteen Volume One was published in 2010 by Easkey Castle Books. It is edited by Andrew Hannon, who was officially reported as missing in the same year and remains so.

The book is a collection of one hundred and thirteen short horror stories. Of these stories, the most notorious and controversial one is called 'The Magic'. In the US publication of the book, 'The Magic' is credited to David York. However, in the UK version, it is credited to Darran York. This confusion over the short story (which is the first one of the 113 in the collection) is not the most noteworthy thing about it - speculation exists that the story itself is somehow haunted. Although it is only two pages long, it has been called 'the scariest short story ever written' and many people are unable to finish it because it is so terrifying.

Towards the end of 2010, a craze started on YouTube where people who had read the book (or tried to, in many cases) post their videos to say what kind of effect the book had on them. Many people claim to have had inexplicable things happen to them either during their reading of the first story or shortly after. However, getting people to talk about exactly what the story is about is notoriously difficult because they state that in order for the story to 'work', the reader must by default know very little about it. It has been liked to the urban legend of Bloody Mary or to a ouija board, although it is not thought that either of these paranormal things are relevant to the story.
