In some cases an administrative unit may have abolishment or similar. In some cases this may constitute a legal, geographical or name continuation which may mean it may make sense to have the article continue coverage rather than starting a new article when the change occurs.
Legal continuation only
edit- Dobwalls and Trewidland>Dobwalls 1 April 2021, this was a legal continuation but because boundary changes occurred at the same time as rename UKBMD treats "Dobwalls and Trewidland" as being abolished and "Dobwalls" being formed. In this cast its probably appropriate to have separate articles with the "Dobwalls and Trewidland" article ending coverage in 2021 since the changes in name were a result of a settlement being moved.
- St Cosmus and St Damian in the Blean>Blean 1 April 2019, this was a legal continuation but because boundary changes occurred at the same time as rename UKBMD treats "St Cosmus and St Damian in the Blean" as being abolished and "Blean" being formed. Keeping a single article seems best as only minor boundary changes occurred.
- United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland>United Kingdom 1922, country was renamed at the same time as it lost the Republic of Ireland, we probably correctly have 2 articles with the "United Kingdom" starting coverage in 1922.
Legal abolishment only
edit- Skegness 1 April 1974, urban parish abolished (10) and successor parish formed, UKBMD doesn't note any changes. Note that Skegness Urban District was abolished though.
- Fareham Urban District>Fareham, abolished like Skegness parish but then new district formed with same area. We correctly have only 1 article for "previous" and current district. Note that for districts that did have 1974 changes like Chorley, Borough of Chorley/Municipal Borough of Chorley are separate.
Geographical continuation only
edit- Halstead Urban>Halstead 1 April 1974, same as Skegness above except new parish formed was called just "Halstead", UKBMD treats this as a rename. We correctly only have one article. Note that the name of the pre 1974 parish comes from "Halstead" parish being split in 1894.
- Havant and Waterloo>Havant, same as Fareham above but "new" district named just "Havant". We correctly have 1 article though there is debate about 1932 changes.
Name continuation only
edit- Dumbleton 1 April 2023, parish was abolished and "Dumbleton" and "Wormington" parishes formed. UKBMD treats Wormington as being formed from "Dumbleton" with no mention of changes to Dumbleton. We correctly only have 1 article. Note that in 1935 Wormington became part of Dumbleton.
- Simonswood 1 April 1994, parish was abolished and new one formed with more area, UKBMD doesn't mention abolishment. We correctly only have 1 article.
