Haraszthy Vineyards is a Hungarian winery producing high quality wines by combining winemaking traditions with modern technology. It was founded in 1996 in Etyek, Hungary. The vineyard’s soil and climate conditions are very similar to Burgundia as the steady temperature and moderate weather is essential for making good quality wine. With its 143 hectares it is the second biggest land owner winery in Etyek-Buda wine region. Its production is 300.000 bottles of wine in 2017.
History
editThe winery is named after Ágoston Haraszthy a pioneer hungarian winemaker who discovered the great capabilities of winemaking in California territory where he introduced more than three hundred varieties of European grapes.
Production
editIn 2016 the production was 250.000 bottles which is divided in three wine families: Haraszthy is the base wine family made by reductive technology. Virtuoso wine family members are aged in oak barrels. They are introduced to the consumers at the age of 2. Finally, Fantástico family wines are marketed as the finest quality. Wine from this family should be rested for at least three to five years before consumption to ensure they are enjoyed at their very best.
The sortiment also includes import wines from sister wineries from California and Argentina.
Wine portfolio
editMain grape varieties are:
The signature wine is called Sir Irsai, a field blend of Irsai Olivér mixed with varying percentages of other grapes grown in the same location, usually including Királyleányka and Chardonnay.
