editSince 2006, I have lectured in Education Studies and acted as the Programme Director for the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies at the University of Hull, Scarborough School of Education in the United Kingdom. Between 2001 and 2006, I was an educational consultant for Plato Learning and Classroom Connect, working mostly in New York City to help teachers integrate technology into the K - 12 classroom. As a classroom teacher, I worked as both a special education teacher and general education teacher for grades K - 9 from 1986 to 1999 in Delaware, Virginia and New York City. I have a BS in Education from the University of Delaware, and an MA in Computing and Education from Columbia University, Teachers College. Currently, I am working on a PhD at the University of Hull, UK where the focus of my research is how and if Wikipedia can be used in higher education to transform learning and teaching.
Use of Wikipedia for Assessment in Higher Education
editAcademic Literacy Module 2013-14
editFirst-year students on the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies programme at the University of Hull are editing existing Wikipedia pages on topics related to early childhood. These students are tasked with improving verifiability and neutral point of view. Additionally, students are tasked with engaging in collaboration through the Talk page for each existing article. Students are not being assessed on how successful their edits are, rather they are assessed through a reflective paper on the experience of editing Wikipedia.
