Carole Frances Lung

Carole Frances Lung is an American Artist and a Labor Activist. She was born in San Francisco, California in 1966 and raised in Huntington Beach, California. She grew up with a passion for Fashion Fiber and Material due to her grandmother teaching her how to sew her own clothing. She is a professor of Fashion Fiber and Material at California State University Los Angeles and is known for her alter ego Frau Fiber.

Education

In 1988 Carole Frances Lung graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Textiles and Clothing from North Dakota State University. Some years later she decided to go back to school and in 2005 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She then continued attending school for her master degree and in 2006 she did a semester abroad in Weimar, Germany, where she studied Public Art and New Artistic Strategies at the Bauhaus University. She proceeded to graduate with a Masters of Fine Arts in 2007.

Career

Carole Frances Lung has worked in the Garment Industry for around 15 years.She worked in garment and machine knitting factories until the fall of the Berlin Wall, when she then lost her job to Chinese workers. In 2009 she became a professor of Fashion Fiber and Material at California State University, Los Angeles, where she still works till this day. She also currently owns a warehouse in San Pedro, California area. In this warehouse she, with the people who join her, run Frau Fiber's institute for Labor Generosity workers and Uniforms. This warehouse is used for many different things. It is used as their main office, headquarters, and for workshops as well. According to the research, in the most recent times, this warehouse was used to make masks for the COVID-19 pandemic. They made about 300 masks that were then donated to homeless shelters and she even took it upon herself to show others how they were made through a virtual training.
