Reception
editInside Games writer Chi Bi discussed the nature of Dragonlord and whether his action of taking the Sphere of Light was an evil action or reclaiming what is his. He noted that, in Dragon Quest III, the Dragon Queen, a messenger of god, gave the Sphere of Light to the humans to defeat Zoma. He noted that fans speculated that the Dragon Queen was the ancestor of the Dragonlord, which would cause Dragonlord to be a messenger of god as well. He felt that, rather than stealing from the humans, he was reclaiming a family treasure, which caused him to view the Dragonlord differently than previously, where he perceived him as evil. He also cited a comic spin-off of Dragon Quest Monsters by Kannon Yoshizaki, where the Dragonlord was depicted as dignified and noble.[1]
