With the release of the SNES Classic, games journalists anticipated a similar release for the Nintendo 64,[1] but expected licensing concerns, controller production issues, and competition with Nintendo's own remakes and Virtual Console digital storefront to impede the microconsole's announcement.[2] In November 2018, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that no such console was in planning, partially because the first two mini-consoles were intended to fill time in-between the Wii U sunset and Nintendo Switch launch.[3]
