D. I. J. Samaranayake is a Commonwealth Scholar and received his M.Sc. in Behavioural and Experimental Economics from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, the UK and completed the M.Phil. in Economics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He is a lecturer in the Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. His research work has been published in several academic journals and has been presented at scientific conferences. His research areas of interest are experimental economics, behavioural theory, behavioural macroeconomics, behavioural political economy, and the shadow economy.

D. I. J. Samaranayake was educated at the Kingswood College, Kandy. Then he entered the University of Peradeniya Faculty of Arts for his higher education and completed the bachelor's degree in Economics and Statistics in 2015 with a First Class Honours degree. He received his postgraduate degrees, Master of Science in Behavioural and Experimental Economics from University of East Anglia, UK in 2020 and Master of Philosophy in Economics, from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka in 2019.
