edit- 1890 On November 27, Ontario Hockey Association is formed in Toronto, Ontario at the Queen's Motel.
- 1892 First junior hockey game played without age limits.
- 1896 Age limited added to junior hockey.
- 1918 First Eastern Canadian Jr. "A" Championship, later known as George Richardson Memorial Trophy.
- 1919 Memorial Cup was donated by the Ontario Hockey Association as National Jr. "A" crown.
- 1933 Junior "B" is created through partitioning it from Junior "A".
- The Sutherland Cup is created as Junior "B" championship.
- OHA Big 10 Jr. "B" league is created.
- 1937 Junior "C" is created.
- 1947 Junior "D" is created.
- 1956: The Big 10 Jr. "B" league is divided into the Western and Central leagues.
- Metro Jr. "B" league is founded.
- Niagara & District Jr. "B" league is founded.
- 1958: Border Cities Jr. "B" league is founded.
- 1960: Interbrew Jr. "C" league is renamed Central Jr. "C" (Grey-Bruce).
- Shamrock Jr. "D" league is founded.
- 1961 The Metro Junior A League is founded to compete with OHA Jr. "A"
- 1963 The Metro league joins OHA Jr. "A".
- The National Hockey League implements Amateur Draft, focuses on top tier of Jr. hockey.
- 1964: Border Cities league folds and is absorbed by Western league.
- Bluewater Jr. "C" league is founded.
- 1965: Central Jr. "C" (Eastern) is founded.
- Quinte-St. Lawrence Jr. "C" is founded.
- 1967 National Hockey League teams are no longer allowed to sponsor Jr. teams.
- 1968: Western Jr. "B" league leaves the Ontario Hockey Association, declares itself Jr. "A".
- Mid-Ontario Jr. "B" league is founded.
- Bluewater Jr. "C" becomes Border Cities Jr. League.
- 1969: A new Western Jr. "B" league is founded.
- Super Jr. "C" series is created.
- Shamrock Jr. "D" league is renamed to Western "D" league.
- 1970: Western Jr. "A" league re-enters Ontario Hockey Association, becomes Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League.
- South-Central Jr. "D" league is founded.
- Georgian Bay Jr. "C" is founded.
- Border Cities Jr. league becomes Great Lakes Jr. "C" league.
- 1971: George Richardson Memorial Trophy is retired.
- First Manitoba Centennial Trophy is awarded to National Tier II Champion.
- First Dudley Hewitt Cup is awarded to Central Canadian Tier II Champion.
- First American team to win an Ontario Hockey Association title: Detroit Jr. Red Wings (SOJAHL).
- Central and Mid-Ontario Jr. "B" leagues are realigned.
- 1972: Jr. "A" is partitioned to Major Jr. (or Tier I) and Tier II Jr. "A". Tier II Jr. "A" predates this official partition by 2 years in Ontario and by over half a decade in other regions.
- Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League folds.
- Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League is founded, takes teams from Metro and Central "B" leagues.
- 1973: Southwestern Jr. "B" league is founded.
- South-Central Jr. "D" becomes Central Jr. "C" (Georgian).
- 1974: The OHA Major Jr. "A" league attempts to distance itself from the Ontario Hockey Association and renames itself the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League.
- Southwestern Jr. "B" league becomes Waterloo-Wellington Jr. "B" league.
- Niagara & District Jr. "B" league becomes Golden Horseshoe Jr. "B" league.
- Niagara & District Jr. "C" is founded.
- 1976: A new Southwestern Jr. "B" league formed out of top level Jr. "C" teams.
- Super Jr. "C" series is ended, teams involved are moved to Jr. "B".
- Central Jr. "C" (Georgian) becomes Mid-Ontario Jr. "C" league.
- 1977: Southern Ontario Jr. A league folds.
- Waterloo-Wellington Jr. "B" league becomes Mid-Western Jr. "B" league.
- 1978: Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is recreated through raiding local NOHA Jr. "B" league.
- Mid-Ontario and Southwestern Jr. "B" leagues fold, teams divided amongst the other five "B" leagues.
- 1980: The OMJHL renames itself the Ontario Hockey League, keeps Ontario Hockey Association affiliation, but is no longer controlled by the OHA.
- Central Jr. "C" (Grey-Bruce) becomes Grey-Bruce Jr. "C" league.
- 1981: OPJHL becomes the OHA Junior "A" league.
- Ontario Jr. "C" title is named Clarence Schmalz Cup.
- 1985: Northern Jr. "D" league folds.
- 1986: Quinte-St. Lawrence Jr. "C" league folds.
- 1987: OHA Junior "A" league folds.
- 1988: Southern Counties Jr. "D" league folds, absorbed by Western "D" league.
- 1989: Metro league leaves the Ontario Hockey Association.
- Eastern Ontario Jr. "C" league is founded.
- Grey-Bruce Jr. "C" league becomes Western Jr. "C" league.
- 1991: Western "D" league is renamed OHA Junior Development League.
- 1993: The Central league is promoted to the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League.
- 1994: Georgian Bay and Mid-Ontario Jr. "C" leagues merge to form Georgian Mid-Ontario Jr. "C" league.
- 1995: Manitoba Centennial Trophy is retired.
- 1996: First Royal Bank Cup is awarded to Tier II National champion.
- Eastern Ontario "C" league is renamed the Empire B Jr. "C" league.
- 1998: The Metro league folds, absorbed by the OPJHL.
- 1999: Northern Ontario Hockey Association separates from Ontario Hockey Association.
- Western Jr. "B" renames itself Greater Ontario league.
- 2002: Greater Ontario league reverts name back to Western Jr. "B" league.
- 2006: OHA Junior Development League is renamed Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League.
- 2007: The Mid-Western, Golden Horseshoe, and Western Jr. "B" leagues merge to form the Greater Ontario Hockey League.
