Jon Washburn (b. 1942) is an internationally known Canadian musician, composer, conductor, arranger, clinician, and lecturer, specializing in choral music and vocal technique.[1] He is best known as the founder and conductor of the Vancouver Chamber Choir. He is a Member of the Order of Canada and has received numerous Canadian and international honours. He is a champion of new choral repertoire having commissioned and premiered over 200 new works and premiered many more. [2]

editJon Washburn founded this professional choral ensemble in 1971.[2] It is well known in Canada and internationally for its performances of Bach and other Baroque composers, commissioning new music from Canadian composers, and performing the whole choral repertoire.[citation needed] Washburn has announced his intention of stepping down after the 2018/19 concert season and assuming the position of Conductor Emeritus.[3]
