About me

edit

I am a college student who lives in the Pacific Northwest. I plan to major in psychology. My interests include musical theater, soccer, hiking, rock climbing, and water sports such as paddle-boarding and sailing.

My Wikipedia interests

edit

If I'm active on Wikipedia in the future, I'll probably going to be adding information to pages about musical theater (my main interest) and psychology (what I plan to study and ultimately have a career in). Psychology the scientific study of the mind, how it works, and how it effects behavior.[1]

Article evaluation

edit

I have attended Kamiak High School for the past three and a half years where I have participated in A.S.B. and multiple performing arts programs. I want Wikipedia's information on Kamiak High School to be as strong as possible, so it will be represented accurately for people interested. I visited the Kamiak High School article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its dead links, its lack of citations, and its lack of information about performing arts, clubs, and activities.

edit

There are two citations, six and eight, listed in the reference section that have two links in each. The first links in both of the citations work correctly and take you to websites about notable Kamiak alumni. The second link in both citations is supposed to take you to the original article. However, these links no longer work, and the page can’t be found. The article should be updated and have those dead links removed.

Citations

edit

There are only a few citations on this page. The few references only go to a small part of the information leaving sections such as the opening information, notable faculty, academics, and athletics without any citations. There are other links listed at the bottom of the page that are not cited in the article. This makes it difficult to tell which fact is coming from which website. This article could use more citations and reliable sources. Some useful sources could be the Kamiak High School website, Kamiak’s course catalog, and Wesco Athletics website for Kamiak.

Performing arts, clubs and activities

edit

I’ve noticed that many of Wikipedia’s pages about high schools try to provide a section for information about each school’s performing arts, school clubs, and other activities. Kamiak’s page spotlights an athletics section and only briefly mentions the performing arts center building in the campus features. Kamiak’s performing arts (i.e. theater, choir, barbershop, band, show band, orchestra, dance team, color guard, etc.) and clubs (i.e. math club, debate team, DECA, etc.) are arguably more successful and well-known in recent years than its sports programs. Kamiak has a wide variety of performing arts, school clubs, and others activities that could be elaborated on in this Wikipedia page.

Summary

edit

Overall, I would rate this article as “okay.” The page gives a fair amount of information to share a reasonable background, but there is a lack of information about performing arts, school clubs, and other activities that aren’t on this page that could benefit the scope of the article. Also, it cites very few sources leaving many sections with no evidence. This makes it difficult to say whether the information is reliable. A couple of the citations that are there have dead links.
