I'm a professional web programmer and frequent user and editor of Wikipedia.
I've been working with the web since '95. These days I work mainly with PHP/MySQL although I was originally a Perl/CGI developer.
I cut my teeth working for Domino Systems, one of the first web agencies in the UK. I then worked for WHSmith, then for several years I worked as a Technical Manager at XKO Software.
My current areas of interest (and therefore Wikipedia contribution topics) stem from my history as a web developer and in the field of Digital Asset Management. I am one of the original two developers of ResourceSpace https://www.resourcespace.com, an open source Digital Asset Management system. I founded Montala Limited, and later transitioned that company to an Employee ownership model. Montala are holders of a Royal warrant of appointment,[1] manage the project in addition to providing commercial hosting, support and development services relating to the software. ResourceSpace has been released under a BSD-style license. It requires PHP, MySQL, and optionally utilities such as FFmpeg and ImageMagick that provide image processing capabilities. It works with most web server software such as Apache.
ResourceSpace, as a leading DAM solution is used by thousands of organisations globally including many large companies such as Google and Coca-cola, and was the first fully open source solution. It was also among the first DAM solutions to be entirely web based and requiring only a web browser.
Other topics of interest include Electric vehicles and environmental matters. I was part of the field trial user group for the Mini E electric car in Oxford in 2010 which I enjoyed immensely and have since gone on to purchase several electric cars such as several Renault Zoes and a Tesla Model S.
