Dorothy May (Schatzman) Santee ( 1932 - 2021)

North American Methodist Missionary in Brazil since 1957.

Born January 27, 1932 in Maysville, KY.

Daughter of: Jessie Breeze (Shatzman/Tomlin) and Richard Schatzman

Sisters: Sally (Schatzman) Ader and Alberta Jean (Schatzman) Knabe (The Schatzman Girls)

Married to Derrel Homer Santee in 1954 and had four children: Daniel Derrel Santee (1957); Dwain Phillip Santee (1959); Donald Mark Santee (1962); and Debora May Santee (1963).

Attended Maysville High School and Asbury College.

The couple arrived by ship in Brazil (port of Santos) and Dorothy was pregnant of her first child. They started their mission in the city of Campinas, SP, where they studied Portuguese and where the couple began their ministry. Dorothy became the church organist during their first five years in Brazil while they directed services in Campinas, Campos do Jordão and São José dos Campos.

In 1962 the family had their first furlough returning to the US for one year visiting sponsoring churches and extended family. Their fourth child was born in Delaware, OH, during this time.

Back in Brazil in 1964 they were transferred to Goiânia where they directed missionary activities and led the Central Methodist Church along with several community congregations in the outskirts of Goiânia (Redenção and others) in which Dorothy contributed as organist and Music Director.

The family had their second furlough in 1969 and were stationed in Arlington, TX at the First United Methodist Church of Arlington.
