- OAMI uses keywords to assign Wikimedia Commons categories to media objects
- JATS describes two main methods for tagging keywords:
- <kwd-group> and any of <kwd>, <compound-kwd>, <compound-kwd-part>, <nested-kwd>, or <unstructured-kwd-group>
- <article-categories> / <subj-group> / <subject>
- Paradox of choice. There are too many options, with no clear guidance on the best practice for machine-readability / interoperability. (See all the examples from the <nested-kwd> and <subj-group> documentation.)
- <kwd-group> cannot be applied to individual media or data files (but see this comment on the NISO site)
Problems with tagging
edit
- Inconsistent use of the @subj-group-type attribute. (examples)
- Inconsistent use of the @kwd-group-type attribute. (examples)
