NYFA Current
NYFA Current was the bimonthly online arts magazine of New York Foundation for the Arts from 2004 to 2011. Featuring web-based projects by up-and-coming artists across disciplines, NYFA Current existed as a forum for artists to write about their own work as well as the work of other artists. Contributors included Cory Arcangel, Ken Montgomery, William Pope.L, Nina Katchadourian, Abigail Child, Dana Frankfort, Wendy White, John Haskell, and Alan Gilbert.
NYFA Current ceased publication with its September 2011 issue, when editor Suzan Sherman stepped down from her position prior to the birth of her son.
History
editLaunched by the New York Foundation for the Arts in April 2004, NYFA Current was the online arts magazine of New York Foundation for the Arts. Nick Stillman served as NYFA Current’s Founding Editor from 2004 to 2008 and conceived of its original design and content. After Stillman left NYFA, Suzan Sherman served as Editor of NYFA Current from 2008 to 2011.
Editor in Chief
editSuzan Sherman served as the Editor of NYFA Current from 2008 to 20011. She has written on art and culture for the New York Times, the New York Observer, BOMB, BOOKFORUM, and the Forward. Sherman has been awarded grants for her writing from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Jerome Foundation, as well as residencies at Ledig House, the Edward Albee Foundation, the Ucross Foundation, and Hawthornden Castle, among others. She also served as the Associate Editor at BOMB magazine.
The Founding Editor of NYFA Current was Nick Stillman. After leaving his positon at NYFA in 2008, he became Managing Editor at BOMB magazine. He is a frequent contributor to ARTFORUM and now lives in New Orleans.
NYFA Current: The Artist's Life
edit"The Artist's Life" was a monthly video podcast series conceived of and launched by NYFA Current. These short videos offered glimpses into the everyday lives of NYFA-affiliated artists in their studios and homes as they discussed their work and creative process.
