The Topaz Commander is a single hull cargo ship built in Myklebust Norway as a 84 metre UT 745 Platform Supply Vessel (PSV). Currently runs under the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. IMO number 9194294, MMSI number 377521000 and Call sign J8B4336. It has a length of 93m (94.3 m with helideck)[1], draught 5.6m, a beam of 18.8 m (23.8 m with helideck) and a speed of 12.5 knots. Previously called Ocean Commander sailing from Norway under the call sign LMC13, the has been renamed Topaz Commander[2][3] and with 4,263 DWT and 840m2 of clear deck space joins Topaz Marines' fleet of around 100 vessels, reinforcing Topaz's position as one of the top ten largest offshore vessel operations in the world.[4]
The addition of a 50t knuckle boom crane makes the Topaz Commander a highly competent MPSV. She is classed as a DP2 vessel and features twin thrusters aft, a tunnel thruster and drop azimuth forward. Topaz Commander was set commence work under a contract with ADAMS Offshore Services Limited in Vietnam. The vessel acquisition was financed in part through a term-loan facility with Standard Chartered Bank.
The acquisition of the Topaz Commander signals Topaz's continued commitment to its fleet expansion programme. In addition to the Topaz Commander, more than 10 new-build vessels will join the Topaz fleet during 2010, among them four anchor-handling tug supply vessels (AHTSV) with dual bow-thrusters custom built for the Saudi Arabian market.
The vessel is currently[5] (02/05/2011) in Teesside Heavy Lift Dock undergoing a fit of crane mechanism to the stern of the ship.
