As you can probably guess, my name is Darlene Ulmet. I live in Hurst, Texas and I am employed by Baylor Health Care System as a Financial Analyst. I have five children (Chris – age 25, Daniel – age 23, Laura – age 20, John – age 19 and Robert – age 19 also, yes twins!). Their ages are as of July 2011 and I am putting this age disclaimer in here as I have no intentions of constantly updating their ages as their birthdays occur throughout the year. For the record, my age is 51 as of the date of this post.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science (the “Computer Science” degree way back when) and I also hold a minor in English Literature. For most of my life, I have been torn between the two worlds of computing and writing. I always figured that computing paid the bills so that was my primary profession for most of my adult life. Recently, a number of individuals have encouraged me to pursue writing as a late life endeavor/profession so here I am – sticking it out there for all the world to see and just hoping for the best. Be gentle in your comments please…this is scarey stuff.

I am a Christian and I was broght up in the Church of Christ on the East Cost where I resided until I was in my early forties. My East Coast Church of Christ had both a piano and an organ so I was thoroughly stunned when I moved to Texas and discovered that the vast majority of Church of Christ churches are non-instrumental.
I enjoy wine (red and white), country music, and Texas Holdem Poker Tournaments. One of my favorite authors is George Eliot. There is a Wikipedia link to the George Eliot biography on the main page of my site. I honestly believe that “It is never too late to become what you might have been” and I am constantly fascinated by the stories of late bloomers such as Grandma Moses, Julia Child, Mahatma Gandhi, Ray Krok, and Laura Ingalls Wilder.
