Quotes from hither and yon
editI haven't spotted anything particularly interesting in a while ...
My contributions
edit- Convergence problem - Added a new article, which still needs more content.
- Convergent (continued fraction) – Responded to "stub" tag. I'm still working on this one.
- Doubly periodic function – Responded to "stub" tag.
- Fundamental recurrence formulas - Added a new article.
- Solving quadratic equations with continued fractions - Added a new article.
- Generalized continued fraction – Major rewrite almost done. Further generalizations are all that's left.
- Complex plane - Responded to "stub" tag.
- Abel's test - Added complex analysis section with demonstration.
- Euler's continued fraction formula - Added a new article. In progress.
- Lacunary function - Added a new article.
- Complex argument (continued fraction) - Added a new article.
- Complex logarithm - Was a cut and paste job; it's now (1/21/07) a free-standing article. CMummert deserves credit for the lovely image of the Riemann surface.
- Chain sequence (continued fraction) - Started a new article. It still needs work.
- Exponential smoothing - Replaced a bad article in its entirety. Additional material is pending.
- Statutory reserve - Responded to a request for an article. This should be expanded.
- LT code - Replaced a short, confusing article with a longer, clearer explanation.
- Niven's constant - Rewrote a poorly written article. Still a stub, but cute.
- Complete quotient - Added another article about continued fractions.
- Periodic continued fraction - Wrote a requested article. Note connection to quadratic surd.
- Restricted partial quotient - Another new article about continued fractions.
- Cophenetic correlation - Rewrote an incoherent article in its entirety.
- Hypergeometric series and Confluent hypergeometric function -- Added examples of elementary functions that can be expressed as 2F1, and tied these in with the continued fraction of Gauss.
- Padé table - Added a new article.
- Continued fraction of Gauss - Added a new article. I've covered the convergent hypergeometric series, but still need to add a section on the ratios of divergent series and extension to Stieltjes integrals.
To do list
edit- Areas of mathematics - Survey article; work on it as time permits.
- /Aurifeuillian factorization - Weird name, cute topic. Put it in your own namespace first.
- Austrian economics - "Analytical framework" is inaccurate.
- Complex analysis - Article needs a lot of work.
- Complex Hadamard matrix - Article needs to be cleaned up.
- /Cyclotomic polynomial - Requested article. Start with a list of references.
- Divergent sequence - Article is empty.
- /Dubious claims - Tickler file, to track articles making dubious claims in re: mathematics.
- Fundamental inequalities - New article is needed.
- Help:Special characters - This help page needs an update.
- Hermitian function - Article is a stub.
- Student houses - "Orphanbot" removed Darbs' coat of arms 1/3/07. Darbs' back 1/15/07; I'm working on Lloyd through Caltech.
- Human Action - Article is a stub(!!) Can you believe it?
- Mercator series - Add some stuff about complex logarithms, accelerating convergence.
- Norman Levitt - Article is a stub.
- Quadratic - Redirect links to this dab page.
- Semantic relatedness - "Google distance" was merged after an AfD. It's a mess.
- Silver ratio - Needs to be cleaned up, linked to quadratic equations.
- /Solving quadratic equations with continued fractions/Proof - Add a proof to experimental collection
- Theta functions - Needs more history. I also ought to look at Cstaffa's contributions.
- Utility - For such an important concept in economics, this article is very poorly done.
- Edward Burr Van Vleck - Article is a stub. The version I found said he wrote about "... divergent series and continued functions(!!) Can you believe it?
- /Hubert Stanley Wall -Article does not exist yet, but it ought to. Note references in A, an, Generalized continued fraction, Solving quadratic equations with continued fractions, Complex plane, Moore method.
- Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mathematics/PlanetMath_Exchange - Work on this as time permits.
Remember to update the list of mathematics articles whenever you add a new one, David!

Personal stuff
editHi! My name is David C. Bryant. For now I'm using this page primarily to conduct experiments with Wiki markup, because I'm already tired of the conflicts that arise when I use the generic "sandbox" page. 21:58, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
I've already run across quite a few "stub" articles. I think I'll work on some of those for a while. Here's a useful link -- wikipedia:stub. 16:14, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
This is an experiment -- I want to create my own sandbox. Oh -- here's how to maintain sub-pages. 16:25, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I've been reading the style manual. Here's another useful link -- wikipedia:picture tutorial. Here's another one, for contacting the community of mathematicians: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics. Here's still another one, for combatting vandalism. Here's an important editorial guideline. Here's a useful table of math symbols. Here's an even bigger table of math symbols. Here's the mathematics portal. 20:00, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Today I found a stub article about quadratic surds. Since I've spent so much time working on those already, it might be fun to expand that particular topic. 19:18, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
I can't really do a good job on quadratic surds until the article on continued fractions is fixed up a bit. Here's a pointer to my working copy. 15:39, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
I searched through all 11 CIT alumni/students who are flying Caltech's flag. It appears that I'm far and away the oldest of the bunch ... most of the rest weren't even born when I graduated in 1973. Oh -- there's a pretty good article about the student houses. It appears that some alley names at Lloyd have changed since I was an undergrad. 21:33, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
I've been absent from these pages a long time -- too long. Now I'm back. Watch this space for more. DavidCBryant 07:09, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
