Incognito Cinema Warriors XP (“ICWXP”) is an internet-based riffing series based on Mystery Science Theater 3000. ICWXP was started in 2008 when the first episode was released on MySpace [1]. ICWXP uses movies and videos from the public domain as its source material [2]. ICWXP follows the misadventures of a soldier named Rikk Wolf who must watch bad movies in order to survive the zombie apocalypse occurring outside the theater.[1] As of May 2011, ICWXP has released 4 movie-length episodes and plans on releasing the first of six new shorts some time during the fourth quarter of 2011.[2]

Plot

edit

According to the ICWXP.com "About" page[1], Incognito Cinema Warriors XP is set during a zombie apocalypse. The main character is a soldier named Rikk who is trapped in a movie theater, called Cine-A-Sorrow, and forced to watch bad movies. Rikk is joined by two robot companions named Topsy and Cylon. Topsy and Cylon are the creations of a demented old inventor, named Dr. Harrison Blackwood, who is living in the basement of the theater. Dr. Blackwood makes a deal with Rikk; as long as he watches one movie each day, then Dr. Blackwood will keep the zombies out of the theater via his security controls. Dr. Blackwood wants to monitor their reactions to the movies for unknown reasons. This turns out to be more than Rikk bargained for, however, as the movies are old, terrible, and “simply unfit for viewing” [1].

Rick and robots proceed to riff the movies in order to endure the torture of watching these terrible movies.

On day 4, Dr. Blackwood is replaced by a new villain from the “Ludovico Corporation” for which it seems Dr. Blackwood was working[1].

Reception

edit

The first episode, Bride of the Gorilla, featured a laugh track to go along with the riffing. This was an addition made by show creator Rikk Wolf. Rikk hoped that the track would help to “set the show apart” from Mystery Science Theater 3000.[3] This feature, however, received mainly negative comments and was removed for the second episode, Lady Frankenstein [3]. When asked about the size of the audience for ICWXP, Rikk Wolf stated, "It seems to have doubled, if not tripled, with each one we've put out. Every time we put one out, it seems to get circulated more heavily" [2].

Future Releases

edit

According to a January 2011 update on the official ICWXP website, Rikk Wolf has stated that future releases of ICWXP will be of a shorter format than the original four releases. Wolf says to expect, "30 minute episodes riffing short films instead of movies[4]." Wolf also states that there will still be full length movie riffs in the future, however no date is specified [4]. The group plans to have the first of the six planned episodes released by the fourth quarter of 2011 [2].
