Heartland Flyer Passenger Rail Extension
A proposal to extend Amtrak passenger rail service on the Heartland Flyer line has been in discussion since 2013. The proposed extension would extend north of Oklahoma City through Guthrie, Ponca City, Arkansas City, Wichita where it would connect with the Southwest Chief rail line that runs from Chicago to Los Angeles via Newton, KS.
Kansas City, MO mayor Sly James, Wichita mayor Carl Brewer, and Oklahoma City mayor Mick Cornett signed "The Cooperative Agreement Among the Mayors of Three Cities" to endorse the extension which would connect Kansas City with Oklahoma City.[1]
