Hello, my name is Delaney McPhail, and I am a Biological Sciences major at Marquette University, with a double minor in Health Studies and Culture, Illness, & Health. I was born and raised in New London, Connecticut, but during my freshman year here at Marquette, my parents relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio. After completing my undergraduate degree, I plan to travel abroad for a master's degree, and then at some point down the road attend medical school!
Career goals of mine include becoming a practicing physician, specifically a pediatrician and possibly specializing in pediatric oncology/hematology, as well as an active member in public health and health policy, as those are two areas I find to be both fascinating and of critical importance to the work I want to be doing. What I love most about my career passions is that they are so relevant in everyday news. From political debates over the healthcare system in America, to disease outbreaks like the latest Coronavirus outbreak, that have the potential to spread around the world, these categories impact our everyday lives, and that is one reason I am so passionate about them.
Some interests of mine include shopping, reading, interior design and baking. Something I am very passionate about is traveling. As of right now, I have been to Mexico, Italy, England, Scotland, Jamaica, France, Andorra, and my most recent trip was to Barcelona, Spain (do not visit unless you are prepared to fall in love with this city, it was amazing)! Between walking along the sandy beaches, drinking sangria, eating tapas, and seeing the beautiful architecture, I did not want to leave!
One fun fact about me is that I have two tattoos (for now)! I got my first tattoo in Glasgow, Scotland. it was a matching tattoo with my sister Ava, who lives and goes to veterinary school in Glasgow. For my second tattoo, I went to Saints and Sinners, on E. Brady Street; this tattoo is the coordinate for Cafè Tiffany, a cafe in Italy that was a favorite of mine and one of my best friends, who passed away last September.
When I am not studying, or crying about how much studying I have to do, I can be found online shopping, watching Netflix, or working at the Wisconsin City Club, where I am a waitress. My favorite latest fashion trends include dad shoes (I love my chunky filas) and mom jeans. My favorite movie is "The Devil Wears Prada", because florals for spring is not, in fact, groundbreaking.
