Theraputta College is a Mix school in Sri Lanka, located in Ambalantota Sri Lanka in Hambantota district. Though it was originally a Buddhist school, now it is run by the Government of Sri Lanka as a National School. It was one of the first schools which was converted to a National School. Theraputta College has two sections - the Primary section, serves students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 and the Secondary section, serves students from Grade 6 to Grade 13.
History
edit1922 August 22 Theraputta National School was established as Medagama Viduhala.The first principal Mr. A.J.Patabedi.By 1926 there were classes upto grade five and about eighty were studied there.When Mr.M.A.Munasinghe in 1927 there were only two teachers in the school.Amount of school increased upto hundred and eleven by 1936.In 1937 Mr.J.P.Jayawardana appointed as the principal and he started supplying drinking milk to the students. In 1939 Medagama Viduhala was reestablished in the area where Theraputta National School now situated. In that time classes were increased upto grade eight.Due to Malaria disaster attendance were poor by 1940.By 1941 Mr. Abeysiriwardana appointed as the principal.
In 1954 Mr. A.R.G.Rajakaruna appointed as the principal. There was a readably development in the e school in this era and G.C.E.A/L classes were started. More teachers, more students, and more buildings were added to.By 1961 number of student increased upto eight hundred and ninety two.In 1963 Mr.D.K.G.Jayasekare became the principal of the school and the following year main hall named as "NAROTUNNA" building.In 1965 the school was renamed as Medagama Theraputta Vidyalaya. In the same year Mr.Sarath Gunarathna became the principal of the school and he laid the foundation to the modern development of the school.
In 1969 school was separated as senior and junior school. By that time in the senior school there were student about five hundred and seventy seven and teachers about twenty two.Roxana Beddage had been served as a master in the school by 1968.By 1941 Mr. G.H.Jinadasa appointed as the principal. By that time in the school there were student about onethoundand and fifteen and teachers about thirty five.In 1970 Mr.H.K.Nandasena became the principal of the school and in 1971 Mr.W.W.G.Silva became the principal of the school and Ven.Beminiyanvila Knanaloka Thero appointed as the principal in 1975.
In 1976 Mr. Sarath Gunarathna reappointed as the principal. His career was 21 years in the school.By 1997 Mr. W.G.Amarasena appointed as the principal.In 1998 Mr.H.J.J.Jayasuriya became the principal of the school.Mr.U.A.R.G. Rajakaruna appointed as the principal in 2000 and Mr.Wilson M.Ekanayake appointed as the principal in 2001.Mr.x appointed as the principal in 200y. Mr.U.A.R.G. Rajakaruna reappointed as the principal of the school in 2009.
In 1994 Theraputta Maha Vidyalaya converts to a National school.By 2002 English Medium class was introduced to the students of grade six.In 2002 annual prize giving was started.

editBattle of Two Cities
editTheraputta College had an annual cricket encounter with Vijayaba Central College, Hungama,named "Walawa Nadee Raja Satana". The first Battle of Two Cities was played at the Theraputta School Garden. Theraputtians host the Battle when it comes in even numbered years, in The Hambantota Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium.
