navigation
The Mobile Frontend experience removes all the navigation and utility links that traditionally have lived down the left hand side of a Mediawiki page. Collapsible elements also do not work with the Mobile Frontend. I propose to provide a collapsed-on-the-desktop 'Basic General Contents' navigation section near the top of each page/chapter of my wiki/book.
This is not a contents listing for the current page/chapter, but a framework contents for the whole book/wiki.
- transcluded from a 'Basic General Contents' template
- This will will be positioned just below the introductory paragraphs for that page/chapter.
- position it like this so that preview tools like 'Hovercards/Page previews' can pull up interesting relevant stuff, not jsut the same contents listing from the very top of every page.
- This 'Basic General Contents' will not be collapsed on mobiles, but could be 'collapsed' manually by readers
- Put it nearly at the top of the page/chapter as that is how navigation works, in a 'top to bottom' flow. I think it would be 'counter intuitive' to expect readers to look to the end of the page/chapter for such a contents. Books traditionally put the contents listing at the front, so we are working from a long established convention here.
