Founded by Bishop Stephen E. Young,Sr. in 2001.The Peace In The Streets(PITS) Festival brings together over 5,000 attendees from communities across the Washington Metropolitan Area and provides a place where families, communities, and organizations can come, have a good time and express their concerns through information sharing. It provides an opportunity to creatively address the problem of homicide and violence that has plagued many families in the Washington Metropolitan area and builds partnerships with other organizations and individuals to implement solutions.
The most simplistic, yet vital message we can present to you relative to our PEACE IN THE STREETS event is That: Peace is for all people. With that in mind, weapons will be surrendered under the guideline of the District's weapons amnesty policy signaling an arrest to the criminal activity that plagues our neighborhoods and communities.
PITS encompass and celebrate the spirit of peace through music, food, the areas and the Gospel. Beginning with a bike-a-thon and parade, the festival includes a health fair, job fair, amusements/games for children and much more.
